Daniel Miller

Actor

From the moment I stepped on stage for my 4th grade performance of School House Rock, I knew there was something unique to acting. As an introvert though, getting back on the stage was always tough. Yet the allure of the stage finally won after high school and I went through the BFA Theatre program at Wayne State performing in plays such as Our Town, 44 Plays for 44 Presidents, and Fantasio. I'm a newcomer on Detroit's scene and I'm very excited to perform and connect. Detroit is a place that can thrive on change. And performances here help stir up people's imaginations. This city is big and wild, with lots of opportunity; I've never felt any restrictions down here and feel that this is the best place to really let loose. I believe the intimacy of the stage is one of the most powerful parts of the theatre; to be able to really affect the audience mere feet away from you is only paralleled to live music in my personal opinion. It all establishes connections, which is one of the main reasons I joined the theatre. To be connected to others is to grow.

A native of Detroit, I moved just outside the Motor City when I was four to the suburbs. I grew up in a family of artists. My father was a former member of the Sun Messengers playing Saxophone and currently resides as an Assistant Professor of Jazz music at Wayne State. My mother sings professionally and plays the flute, Saxophone, and Clarinet. My younger brother took up the Trumpet and my older brother gravitated towards the drums and eventually Construction. I latched onto the Violin in grade school and have been in love with all music and performance since.

I'm excited to be working with Slipstream because of the great connections, opportunities, and experiences that it offers. And the fact that Slipstream isn't afraid to explore the raw and bold side of reality and unreality.

I have a strong attachment to the outdoors, hiking, swimming, biking....as long as it's not snowing. Yet dancing like a loon on the disco floor is always a big part of me as well
