Romeo and Juliet

Jan 7th – Jan 29th

Romeo & Juliet

A billionaire businessman runs against a former First Lady and Secretary of State for President. The battle is heated, divisive, and induces the country’s political upheaval. The four children of the businessman stand to inherit a dynasty if they follow their father’s orders. The only daughter of the former First Lady must face the scrutiny of the public eye. This is the world of Capulet versus Montague in Slipstream’s spin on Shakespeare’s iconic Romeo and Juliet. The youngest daughter of the Capulet clan and the only daughter of the Montague family are the star-crossed lovers in this version, and they will stop at nothing to be together.

The cast features Tiaja Sabrie as Romeo and Kaitlyn Valor Bourque as Juliet. Slipstream’s founding members Luna Alexander and Ryan Ernst play Laurence and Tybalt, respectively. College students Maxim Vinogradav and Jackson Abohasira round out the Montague gang as Mercutio and Benvolio. Returning favorite Graham Todd takes on the role of Paris, while company member and Puzzle Piece Associate Artistic Director Laura Heikkinen steps into the role of the eldest daughter of the Capulet family, Ladie Capulet. Rounding out the cast as Juliet’s often forgotten older sister and truest confidante, Natalie (usually known as ‘Nurse’) is the much welcomed newcomer to the Slipstream stage, Mandy Logsdon.  Tiaja Sabrie serves as the show’s costume designer, with Technical Director Ryan Ernst responsible for the set and lights. The production is directed by Bailey Boudreau with Assistant Direction by Victoria Rose Weatherspoon.

Romeo and Juliet focuses on the children caught in the wake of their parents’ actions, surrounded by the civil unrest and vitriolic nature of a country in peril. In a time when good and evil no longer have definitions and everything is newsworthy except actual news, does love truly trump hate? And just how much are we willing to sacrifice for that love?
